Place Fade to Black outdoors on a hard, flat, and level surface. Stabilize the cake according to its label and face the designated spectator side in the proper direction.
Because the cake fires effects at multiple angles, provide additional clearance on both sides of the firing area. Keep spectators, buildings, vehicles, trees, dry vegetation, and overhead obstructions outside the complete firing and fallout zone.
Maintain the spectator distance required by the manufacturer and local regulations. Have water readily available and designate a sober, responsible adult to supervise the display. Light the fuse from the side and immediately move to a safe distance.
